A Sony ICF-2010, was my initial point of reference into the Short Wave listening phenomenon. In 1979, on my younger brother's J88CG initiative, Thunderbird 155 VQ, a citizens band station was erected.
It initially comprised of a Cobra 2000 GTL base station transceiver, a 4 element directional yagi turned by a Radio Shack rotator commandeered from the on air television antenna. We soon added a highly modified Cobra 148 GTL mobile transceiver and a 5 watt Radio Shack TRC 221 handheld transceiver.
Soon after, we were ecstatic to purchase from a DX-pedition team on SVG, a new ICOM IC 745 transceiver, designed and built, a 40/80m dipole with coaxial traps, and thus entered the world of amateur radio. We have never looked back...........
